The 2007/08 British Basketball League (BBL) Championship season tips-off with four matches on the opening night, Friday 21st September, including exciting clashes between the top four clubs from last season.
The BBL Championship Playoff winners, the Newcastle Eagles, host the double-winning Poujoulat Heat Guildford at the MetroRadio Arena (7.30pm tip-off), whilst last season's Championship runners-up, the Sheffield Sharks, welcome the Scottish Phoenix Honda Rocks to the EIS (7.30pm).
The Everton Tigers will also be part of the big curtain-raiser, as the city of Liverpool hosts its first top-flight game when the Worcester Wolves travel to Merseyside (8.00pm). The final game on opening night pits the Kularoos Plymouth Raiders against the BiG Storage Cheshire Jets at the Plymouth Pavilions (7.30pm).
Saturday 22nd September sees the first derby game of the new term as the DMU Leicester Riders face-off with the Team Birmingham Panthers (7.30pm), each looking to strike first blood in the battle between the East and West Midlands. PAWS London Capital's inaugural BBL season also begins that night when they welcome the Marshall MK Lions (7.30pm), whilst the Kularoos Plymouth Raiders face their second game of the weekend, also in the capital, against London United (7.45pm).
Opening weekend concludes on Sunday with the clash between long-time rivals the BiG Storage Cheshire Jets and the Sheffield Sharks at the Northgate Arena (5.30pm).
In an exciting new format, all of the BBL Trophy group games are concentrated around late-December and January, allowing the teams to focus almost exclusively on the Trophy competition.
The Poujoulat Heat Guildford begin their ULEB Cup campaign with a trip to KK Bosna on Tuesday 6th November and play their first home game on Tuesday 13th November against DKV Joventut Badalona.
The big dates for the diary include the BBL Cup Final on Sunday 13th January, the BBL Trophy Final on Sunday 2nd March, and the Basketball Finals Weekend on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th of May, all at venues to be announced.
