Big Brit Joins the Heat

The Guildford Heat have announced the signing of British centre John Nottley ahead of a 2007/08 season in which they will be looking to defend the BBL Championship and BBL Cup, and will also be contesting for the ULEB Cup.

The Southampton-born player gained experience of British basketball at a lower level with Solent before proceeding to gain an academic scholarship at Oklahoma Christian University in the USA. Having just graduated after four years, Nottley commented,

"This is a great opportunity for me and I'm pleased to have it. I'm glad to be back in Britain and delighted to be asked to join a championship winning side immediately. I'm very much looking forward to the start of the season and to playing in Europe." When asked to describe his style of play Nottley added, "I like to hustle. I especially like to beat all the other big men to the other end of the floor in transition and get to the boards first."

The Heat's Head Coach, Paul James, had the following to say about the signing of the 6'11" rookie,

"Signing John further signals my commitment and the clubs intention to develop good young British talent. I'm really excited about the potential of this young man and very much looking forward to working with him. John is 6'11", very mobile, active and already has a good understanding of the game with a better than average touch in and around the basket. I'm hoping for some great things from him in the next season or two."

Nottley is expected to make his debut for the Heat against London Leopards September 8th at Bracknell Leisure Centre and September 9th away to Plymouth in the first leg of the BBL Cup Winners Cup.
