Harker Returns
16 July 2007
The Worcester Wolves have announced the appointment of Skouson Harker as player/coach ahead of the 2007/08 British Basketball League (BBL) Championship campaign.
The 6'8" Canadian has previously spent two seasons in the BBL with the Birmingham Bullets, the most recent of which, in 2005/06, was a successful stint as player/coach that saw him lead the Bullets to twelve wins that season, bettering the previous two seasons.
Coach Harker will lead from the front and continue to play a prominent role on the court. In his last season with the Bullets the 30-year-old averaged 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists per game; he was ranked eighth in the BBL in total points with 668, and fifteenth for total assists with 105. The Wolves have also announced that Harker's predecessor, Josh Cooprider, will be available to assist the new coach.
Harker said, "This is an exciting opportunity. I have been impressed by how far Worcester has come in such a short time in British Basketball and my aim is to help them to continue to move forward and put a team in place that will be more competitive in the BBL this season."
Director of Basketball, Mick Donovan, added, "Skouson is a young, ambitious coach who has demonstrated that he is hungry to succeed. He is joining our young but very ambitious club - we believe that he will make an impact as the Head Coach of the Wolves Academy which includes the BBL team, the EBL Div 3 team, the successful university programme, and the thriving community initiatives."
Wolves' Managing Director, Roger Clarke, explained, "We made a commitment to the Wolves followers at the end of last season that we would improve the team and Skouson is the first of many new faces."
Harker has already targeted some key players as he embarks on his first challenge of rebuilding the Wolves team for their campaign in the forthcoming season.
