Toms Dream
Test Match at Chester-le-Street
Starting on Friday 15th June, and for five days (if it lasts that long) there will be an England Test Match against West Indies. This is just reward for the wonderful achievements of the Durham County Cricket Club who in such a remarkable short time have put Durham on the world cricketing map.
Perhaps a trip to Riverside, as the additional seats go in for the Test Match, would be a worthwhile exercise for it is a truly remarkable sight.
Who could have believed in 1992, when those visionary pioneers started the "Durham Dream", we would see such a wonderful international cricket ground as Riverside - and improving all the time! And what is more remarkable is the fact that there are currently three Durham players in the England team (a fourth in the squad) - more than any other county. Yet they are still flying high in both competitions. Another testimony to the great strides made by Durham's Youth Academy which evidence proves is as good as any in the UK.
As things change in the world, and grubby materialism takes over in so many areas of our life, let us say "thank you" to those pioneers who made this all possible; those "dreamers" who had that first vision which led us to this so wonderful and exciting position, with worldwide recognition, and in such a reamarkably short time.
