Adrift at the foot of the table, even a home point would be a massive boost and that was the very least that Rangers deserved here.

They put in a solid performance with McNicol and Tolmie forming a fine defensive barrier whilst the overall performance could and should have got all three points for the homesters.

Even the goal that won it for Ayr was scrappy to say the least. There were only five minutes left when Logan could only half clear a punt into the box. The ball fell to Stevenson and, even then, it took a deflection on its way in.

Boss Michael Renwick deserves time to sort the club out and, at least on this performance, there is light at the end of that proverbial tunnel.
