Dumbarton 2 Berwick Rangers 0
26 November 2007
When you are having a bad time in the league, often a good win in the Cup can initiate a change of fortune and, of course, there is the none too insignificant chance of being drawn against one of "the big boys" and making a few quid!
Alas, neither is going to happen for Rangers who went down to managerless Dumbarton by two goals to nil.
In Rangers' predicament a good start to the match was essential but it took the home side only five minutes to go ahead when O'Connor allowed a fairly innocuous effort from MacFarlane to creep in. Uphill struggle straight away!
Rangers battled on against the elements and, had they gone in one down, it may have been different but McPhee doubled the Sons' lead with a header before the break.
With the gale behind them Berwick forced the game forward and had their big chance to get back into the tie when the dangerous McMullan was brought down in the box. However, Mcleish's penalty was well saved by Crawford. When your luck's out!!
Rangers showed plenty of willingness and effort but could not break down the home defence and it is they who await the draw for the next round and not poor old Rangers!
