Thoughts of Rangers at Berwick
By Jim Pearson
When you look through the Berwick Rangers statistics, their biggest crowd was in 1967 against the mighty Rangers--so how many did they lose by?
I was fairly young(ish) and I can remember the absolute and utter disbelief when the old tele-printer on "Grandstand" announced a 1-0 win for the wee Rangers against the massive Rangers; surely a mistake. They must have omitted a 1 in front of the 0 following the Rangers name. No, it really had happened and the goal-scorer was a tiny midfield player called Sammy Reid who I had watched regularly playing skilfully for my home town team of Falkirk.
I wonder if he got a few free pints that night!!
I think I am right in saying that the Berwick goalie that day was one Jock Wallace who went on to successfully manage the "other" Rangers.
So it just shows that anything can happen in this great game.
Any thoughts on this or other great days for Berwick will be gladly welcomed.
Will we be celebrating promotion at the end of the season?
