Darlo bruise Boston

Darlington 2 Boston 0

After last weeks demoralising 6-0 thrashing by Grimsby Town, Boston were expected to be an easy touch for Darlo. However, we made so much hard work of it we showed ourselves to be not much better than them. I wonder what Grimsby would have made of us last week if we played like we did today!! In fact Boston almost opened the scoring.

With both sides playing poor a mistake by Lee Jones almost gave Bosotn the edge. After he came out to collect a cross in the centre of the penalty area he dropped his catch and failed to collect the loose ball which fell to the feet of Ernie Cooksey. With the goal at his mercy Cokksey sent a low drive goalbound. But the superb David Wheater was on the line to clear it out for a corner and save Jones's blushes.

By the end of the first half the game was probably equal with only Micky Cummins and David Wheater having any efforts of note on goal.

The start of the second half saw Boston much the brighter side, immediately attacking the Darlo penalty area. But it was the quakers who eventually took the lead on 59 minutes.

After a quickly taken corner the ball was drilled in low and the Boston defence only half cleared it. It fell to the feet of defender Ian Miller who kept his composure and smashed home a low drive to give us a one nil lead much to the relief of the very low crowd.

That seemed to kill off Bosotn whose heads could not get any lower they just lost the plot then and we should have taken them to the cleaners, so it was no suprise five minutes later Darlo doubled their lead through a superb bit of play inspired by Neil Wainwright. He collected the ball on the right wing and glided through the challenges form the Boston defence laying the ball off for Evan Horwood who then intelligently returned the ball back to Wainy who was now in space of the left of the area. Wainy controlled the ball and sent a left footed shot back across goal and into the net.

Boston's game was finished and to make matters worse Bradley Thomas was sent off for his second yellow card.

Darlo just cruised now instead of making a meal of it – shame, a few goals might be needed at the end of the season.
