NOTTS OUT FOR THE COUNT(Y)

Notts County 0 Darlington 1

After fifteen visits Darlington won for the first time at Meadow Lane. A shame that we could not have won one more recently and kept ourselves in the promotion hunt, but there you go!

The game itself was a scrappy affair in which goalmouth incidents were few and far between; the first-half being particularly drab bad. Notts failed to have a single finishing effort on target during the first half.

There was a slight improvement in the second half. County actually tested our keeper Sam Russell. This was the one and only save he had to make. However, County had strong penalty claims turned down for what appeared to be clear handling offences, but referee Steve Bratt waved play-on each time.

The game was settled with eight minutes to go when a County player needlessly conceded a free-kick on the edge of their penalty area. It was played short to Darlington's central midfielder David Rowson, whose shot was deflected to take it wide of the stranded Pilkington.
