Bogey Men!!
18 March 2008
Arsenal 1 Middlesbrough 1
In football you always come up against bogey teams, teams who just seem to always cause you bother and get great results against you. Well this would certainly be the case here!
Having beaten Arsenal earlier in the campaign at The Riverside, 'Boro travelled to London to face the high-flying Arsenal and put in a tremendous rearguard performance. Indeed they came close to actually pulling off the double.
'Boro got a break when Adebayor slotted home but was adjudged offside even though it was Boateng who had last played the ball. Similarly there were question-marks against the goal that 'Boro did score and, yet again, the big debate about the off-side rule reared its ugly head! Schwarzer knocked a long ball to Tuncay who was definitely on-side. At this stage Aliadiere was definitely off-side. Tuncay ran forward and played a great ball into the path of the aforementioned Aliadiere who was now on-side and he gleefully smacked the ball home against his former team.
To my way of thinking he nust have been interfering with play in the first instance but what do I know? In fact what does anybody know about the off-side rule--referees included!!
The goal was gladly accepted and 'Boro then put up a real fight to hold on to all three points and their defence was only eventually pierced when Toure headed home late in the game.
A great point gained and with this sort of performance safety could be just around the corner.
