‘Boro lay the ghost

Middlesbrough 3 Fulham 1

In such an up and down season at least we gave a reasonable performance in the last game of the season to give the fans some hope of an improved season ahead.

Mark Viduka capped a fine season with another two goals and the question on everyone's lips is, "Will he be here next season?" We have to hope so because his overall play and goals will be very difficult to replace.

Several teams are keen to talk with him so we can only hope that his decision is based on staying at a club where the manager, players and fans appreciate his talents and where he appears to be enjoying his football.

Boro's other goal came from a fine header from young defender David Wheater which, to a degree, made amends for his slip which allowed Simon Davies to anticipate and finish neatly for Fulham.

Perhaps we should not read too much into Boro's comfortable win because this was against a very poor Fulham side who, but for beating Liverpool's under-strength side last week, could well have started next season in The Championship. Lawrie Sanchez has got a lot of work to do in the close season!

So it has not been a great campaign for the 'Boro but it is a season under Gareth Southgate's belt and summer transfer transactions will be very interesting as well as waiting and hoping anxiously for Mr Viduka's decision.
