Boro no Complaints

Fulham 1 Middlesbrough 2

It was left to Middlesbrough to fly the flag for the North-East with their first three points of the season down at Craven Cottage. You could say they were a tad fortunate to win the match which would be an understatement!

Gareth Southgate took a massive gamble by starting his new signing Mido who has not played since April but it came off albeit mainly thriugh an absolutely disastrous piece of goalkeeping by Warner in the Fulham goal who totally misjudged Mido's speculative attempt at goal and succeeded merely in helping the ball into the net. But I do not hear 'Boro complaining! This equalised a first half goal from McBride who neatly finished off a good move but in the process amazingly looked to have dislocated his knee. A simple side-foot and the knee collapsed a la Michael Owen.

So a decent away point was on the cards but, not a bit of it, there was even better to come! Sub Aliadiere who still has a lot to prove made a great run to the right and then played a lovely ball into the path of Cattermole who smacked it crisply past Warner.

Victory in sight but not without a massive piece of luck. Irish striker Healy got on the end of a loose ball in the box and Schwarzer made a brave attempt to save but could only succeed in carrying the ball a good foot or so over the line. Victory snatcheed away in the last minute? Why, not likely when the clueless linesman failed to signal a goal. Tak e the luck when you get it!

How long before we get one simple piece of technology to ascertain af the ball has crossed the line. Nothing else, just that. After all that is what the game is all about, scoring more goals than your opponents.

So 'Boro head towards next week's Tyne-Tees derby in much better spirits. It is amazing what a win can do for you--no matter how it is achieved!!
