Good stuff!

Middlesbrough 1 Wigan 0

As I have been saying all season it is imperative that teams in the lower reaches of the table make full use of home advantage, especially against the others in the same half. So, maybe it was not a fantastic display, but a win in the end was more than satisfactory against a team who has shown improved form of late under Steve Bruce.

The only goal of the game was a fine strike by Aliadiere who used his pace to get on to a fine ball from Stewart Downing before cracking it home.

The other highlight of the night was the skill shown by the very talented Tuncay who was unlucky not to get on the score sheet on several occasions. Unfortunately his sparkling performance came to a premature end after 34 minutes when he had to leave with a hamstring problem. On this form we have to hope that it is not too serious. Downing gave a good performance in front of Fabio Capello but is it really necessary for his agent to publicly air what has been discussed in private regarding the lad's future?

Surely this can only be detrimental to player and club.
