Middlesbrough 2 Birmingham City 0

It is always going to be difficult to pick up point from "the big boys" so certain games become very important to win. One such game is a home match against Birmingham and 'Boro didn't let us down. They produced their best performance of the season and were on top throughout to such a degree that it looks like Steve Bruce and his City side could be in for a long, hard season.

But let's credit 'Boro who went ahead as early as the twelfth minute and it was the impressive Wheater who got his name on the goal sheet. Stewart Downing added a second before half-time to virtually tie the match up because Birmingham produced no real threat at all.

With Woodgate dominant at the back and Aliadiere causing problems up front it added up to a fine day for the 'Boro who can now look forward to the future with much more optimism than a mere couple of weeks ago!

Gary O'Neil, the last minute signing from Portsmouth has always impressed me and he looks sure to become a big favourite with the 'Boro faithful.

With less than 23,000 at the game let's hope that this sort of performance can tempt the missing fans back to the Riverside.
