Middlesbrough 2 Arsenal 1
There they are, good old Arsenal, dodging along nicely, top of the league and playing the sort of football we in the North-East can only dream of. Two games up here in four days against the struggling Newcastle and the even more struggling 'Boro. Six points, but at least four.
WRONG!!
Middlesbrough followed Newcastle's lead and started the game at a tremendous pace putting Arsenal under incessant pressure in an effort to stop them from playing their normal flowing game. Not only was it working but there was an early additional boost when Aliadiere's pace was too much for the visitors and he was brought down in the box. Stewart Downing duly obliged from the spot.
There was a lot of coming and going but 'Boro were more than holding their own and it did not come as a particular surprise when the hard working Tunchay rapped home a second. Ecstasy! Even the normally subdued Southgate and Cooper had a bit of a hug on the touchline!
So good was the display from 'Boro that Rosicky's late goal for the visitors went almost unnoticed.
This is more like it 'Boro but, as per Newcastle, the same sort of performance is needed week in week out, no matter who the opposition may be.
