Sad Boro’

Wigan 1 Middlesbrough 0

Well, it looks like Mido is signing and we can only hope that he can make the difference and help to get a couple of victories under the belt. As in many cases during this transfer window I would suggest that he is a bit over-priced but needs must. In theory Mido and Yakubu should be a handful for any defence. Let's hope it is the same in practice.

Too many players were not up for the fight at Wigan and having lost the first game at home, already the alarm bells are ringing! It really should be too early in the season to be worried but other candidates for the drop are picking up points and easing ahead of 'Boro.

Apart from a Stewart Downing effort that hit the post, Kirkland in the Wigan goal had probably his comfiest game in a Wigan shirt.

Wigan could and should have won by more but former Newcastle man Antoine Sibierski scored the vital winner when he was astute enough to follow in on a Valencia effort to bravely slide the ball home as it came back off Schwarzer. Two goals in two games, not bad!

So it could be the start of a bit of an uphill struggle but let's hope that the introduction of Mido can be the spark that is needed to get a win, gain confidence and head up the table.
