Still not safe....

Middlesbrough 0 Bolton Wanderers 1

21 April 2008

After a disappointing home defeat, 'Boro are still not certain of safety, whilst Bolton have given their chances of survival a massive boost.

In fairness 'Boro could and should have been out of sight within the first fifteen minutes. They bombarded the Bolton goal but came up against a fantastic 'keeper in Ali Al-Habsi, who is turning out to be a tremendous replacement for the injured Jaaskaleinen. What he didn't save whistled just past the post or just over the bar.

Bolton must have appreciated their good fortune and gradually worked their way back into the game, to the point where they got well on top in the second half. However, it could have been so different if the ref had given a penalty for a blatant hand-ball by McCann. He could not say that he was in a bad position because he was staring straight at it!

To make matters worse, Bolton went back upfield, won a corner, which was met by the impressive Cahill. But his fine header was met by an equally fine save by Turnbull. However, that man McCann was on hand to flick home what turned out to be the vital winner.

So Bolton have given themselves a bit of a life-line but 'Boro can still not relax and need one more win to breathe easily.
