Why so different?

Middlesbrough 1 West Ham 2

Having served up a fine performance in their last home match to beat league leaders Arsenal expectancy was high against the mere West Ham---but it was the "other" 'Boro that emerged on the day!

Even so, the home side did take the lead when Aliadiere made great space for himself at the back post and headed back for big David Wheater to scramble the ball home. So to go in one up at half-time without playing well would be satisfactory to say the least but it was not to be because the 'Boro defence did not react to a loose ball on the edge of the box but Dean Ashton did and his clean strike flew past Schwarzer into the corner of the net.

All to play for in the second half and there were half chances at both ends but the vital goal did not arrive until the very last minute. Scott Parker was allowed too much space to receive the ball in the box but he still had a lot of work ahead of him but he showed some fancy footwork and got himself enough space to slot neatly into the corner.

So another home defeat and back to the drawing board.
