Big Sam for Transfer Market!
5 June 2006
So, Big Sam has started to make his mark already, with the likely outgoing of club skipper Scott Parker. If they are getting the sort of money that has been reported, some 7 million, I have to say I would be very interested in taking the dosh and using it on a replacement with a bit of change flung in!
It is now becoming common knowledge that Joey Barton could be that replacement. I have seen him play several times and he has a lot of assets. He has great energy, makes good forward runs both with and without the ball and likes to get stuck in. He also has a bit of leadership in his make-up which would be very handy at the Toon.
BUT, he comes with a bit of a reputation and the last thing we need is more trouble in the camp.
Big Sam took the wayward Diouf and made him into a very effective player at Bolton. Can he do the same with Barton and channel his aggression to make him a real bonus for us?
Come on, what do you think about this situation and who else should we be going for?

Reply to Michael--Agreed! Barton will give us something we have been lacking and his enthusiasm will rub off. Viduka looks a good player, great feet for a big fella. I am just not sure that he plays enough games in a season, but I think Michael Owen would dovetail nicely with this type of player. As for Sol Campbell, he has proved that he still has it--but for how long. Could be ideal short-term but I believe Sam is looking elsewhere at players a bit younger. The good news is that he is totally aware of our deficiencies in central defence!
