Relief beyond Belief!

Newcastle United 2 Birmingham City 1

After the vastly improved performance against the mighty Arsenal expectation was high against the not so mighty Birmingham City!! This was always going to be a massive match, almost one of these so-called "must win".

And what a way to start! After only 8 minutes a mere hump up the pitch from Schmidt was too much for Rosehnal to cope with and Jerome took full advantage and in a bit of style as well as he calmly rounded Given and tapped home. Oh dear!

Credit to Sam, who is never afraid to make a substitution and he replaced Butt with Viduka as early as the 31st minute and this signalled an onslaught on the Brum goal.
Credit too to the fans who rallied behind their team and were rewarded after 37 minutes when the busy Martins was brought down unnecessarily by Sadler and the same player took the kick and must have heaved a massive sigh of relief when the ball sneaked home off the hands of opposing keeper Taylor.

Amazingly Newcastle lost their momentum for a spell at the start of the second half and had some hairy moments before regaining their composure. There were several efforts on goal including a twenty yarder from Milner which hit the bar but, as time moved on, it looked a cert draw--not what we wanted.

So you can imagine the elation when, right at the death, from Emre's corner, the ball ended up in the neat from the head of Beye, an unexpected source to say the least!
So one point turned into a massive three and could this be the turning point that could put us on a bit of a run?

One thing is certain we will never count the proverbial chickens!!
