Chelsea all to Sea with United Penalties
Sunday 22nd April 2007
Newcastle United 0 Chelsea 0
With Man United only managing a point against a revitalised Middlesbrough the previous day, the stage was set for Chelsea to push themselves right back into serious contention if they could beat The Toon at St. James.
Recent form would indicate that this was the likely outcome but surely we have our pride to play for.
Considering what was at stake, the game was not the sort of rip-roaring affair that we may reasonably have expected. There was not a lot of great build-up play and chances, mainly of the half-chance variety, were few and far between. Taylor and Bramble were solid at the back and set a good platform for those around them.
As has been known in the recent past, Chelsea came very close to scoring right at the death when a flick from Joe Cole trickled tantalisingly past the wrong side of the post for them and the right side for us!
So we remain unbeaten in our home games against the top four which sounds good in theory but, to make it really count in our favour we have to get full points in home games against the likes of Sheffield United, Fulham and Charlton.
Next season?
