TOON SHARPEN THE BLADES

Sheffield United 1 Newcastle United 2

A win at last and a couple of goals en route. Can we now finish the season on a high? Let's hope so!

Earlier in the season Sheffield United came to St James and gradually realised that The Toon were there for the taking and got a great victory. Today was a bit of role reversal with a poor home side playing second fiddle to the visitors who at last played with a bit of momentum and were that bit classier.

A Duff cross, a Milner knock-down and a smart right foot finish by Martins and we are ahead.

Apart from the obligatory lack of concentration to allow Lucketti a free header, which he happily missed, it was always Newcastle who looked the likelier. But when Martins got the better of the keeper and hit the post Sibierski somehow managed to blast over. This would have made the game safe but we are not renowned for making things easy for ourselves so a bout of slack marking allowed sub Nade to hit across Givens into the net for a very unlikely equaliser.

But, credit where it is due, we stuck with it and Taylor headed home from a Milner corner with ten minutes left to ensure that we reach the 40 point mark.

So is this the sign of improved form? Well we won't have long to wait because we play Arsenal on Easter Monday and they may just be smarting after losing at home to lowly West Ham.
