West Ham Hammered

Newcastle United 3 West Ham 1

Maybe it was a bit flattering but, after Monday night's disastrous performance at the apparently already doomed Derby County, we will accept anything.

In fairness we showed a bit spirit and had spells where we played some decent football, especially when Charles N'Zogbia was on the ball. He really is back to his best after a bit of a lull last season.

It was he who knocked a great ball in for the first goal but a lot of credit must go to the goal scorer, Viduka, who got in front of Ferdinand, used his strength and technique to head home.

The next goal was similar in that the same two players were involved. This time N'Zogbia resisted the temptation to shoot and squared it to the inrushing Viduka who, more by instinct than anything else knocked the ball home off his knees! It really doesn't matter how they go in, does it?!

In between these two goals we had a bit of a defensive lapse (reminiscent of not so long ago!!) and the dangerous Ashton was allowed time and space to volley home from six yards.

With Michael Owen leaving the pitch yet again, sub Martins came on and livened up the show and, when he was put through by N'Zogbia, despite some dubious controlling of the ball, he managed to knock it across goal. The aforementioned star of the show had continued his run and knocked it in from close range. If ever a player deserved a goal.

So a good home victory should liven things up and it is now off to Arsenal on Tuesday which will not be easy--even if they do play their reserve team!!
