Oh Dear!!

Newcastle United 1 Portsmouth 4

When you lose a goal in the first ten minutes it makes it difficult. If you lose two in the first ten minutes it makes it doubly difficult. If you lose three..............

Having been TOLD how well we are playing at home, if we believed it, then this was going to be another difficult game but one which we were going to win. However, I remain to be convinced that we have been playing well even although we have had three 3-1 wins off the belt at St. James.

I certainly remain to be convinced after this debacle!

O.K. there was not a lot you could do about the first goal, a stupendous strike into Harper's top corner from Pamarot but the indecision and lack of basic organisation that resulted in a further two goals by Benjani and Utaka, was hard to take and hard to believe.

Big Sam immediately substituted Cacapa who had been brushed aside and found lacking in the build-up to both goals but, in theory, the game was over.

We managed to scramble an own goal from the unlucky Sol Campbell but what I found really scary was the way that Portsmouth not only kept hold of the ball very easily but continued to attack and play their way through our defence at ease to make several more chances. As it turned out the only further goal from the visitors came from a free-kick crossed into the box by the impressive Kranjcar and missed by defenders and goalkeeper one and all. The nature of this goal really summed up the whole day!

Credit where it is due, Harry has got a talented side together and one that TRIES TO WIN THE GAME HOME OR AWAY BY AS MANY GOALS AS POSSIBLE. This is as it was in my day and as it should be now!

However I doubt that they will come across many teams who will allow them to parade their skills as easily as we did.

So we go into the game against Sunderland a bit shell-shocked to say the least so now we have to see some leaders who are willing to take charge and make others play properly and do their jobs.

I wait anxiously to see who they may be!!
