Roeder, Nice Lad, Wrong Job

In the end it was inevitable, but Glenn Roeder has departed from his post as manager of Newcastle United. To be fair it had been on the cards as we lost too many games, particularly at home where St. James' should be the proverbial fortress. Of late the performances have been poor and it is the manager who carries the can.

I have known Glenn since my Nike days when he was captain of Newcastle. He was and is a lovely lad and I could always rely on him if we needed any promotional work done and we became good friends.

He did a great job for The Toon when he took over as caretaker manager and dragged us up the league and into Europe. But that role totally changes with the official appointment as manager, because that is when the buying and selling takes place and the game is such that there are massive amounts of money being spent and it is imperative to get it right first time. It is easy for us to sit back and have a go after the event--hindsight is great, isn't it?!

I spoke briefly with Glenn today and I can only wish him and his lovely wife Faith a happy future.

So who do you think should take over? Don't be shy, give us your selections and why and then I shall tell you why you are wrong!!
