Shambolic!!
14 January 2008
Manchester United 6 Newcastle United 0
Shall we try to clutch at straws? Michael Owen was not off-side when he scored in the first half. It didn't look like a free-kick when Ronaldo opened the scoring? Rio Ferdinand did look off-side when he scored. Tevez's sixth goal didn't cross the line. Or will we be truthful?
How we went in at half-time level is a mystery. We were played off the park. As usual we all start thinking and hoping that we might just hang on. Then we lose a goal and completely cave in. It could literally have been double figures!
Whist you have to admire the talent, confidence and pace of the home side, the space they were allowed was incredible....and can you really give players like Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez, etc space?
Goal one is a free-kick from the irresistible Ronaldo who keeps it low, the wall jumps and Given fails to get enough on it.
Goal two is one Laurel and hardy would be proud of! Enrique (?6.5 million's worth?!?!) drops Given in the mire. He smacks it off the shell-shocked Cacapa. Giggs gently rolls it into the path of Tevez and my grandson could have done the rest!
Goal three is class. A bout of crisp passing ends with Tevez whose through ball is so nonchalantly controlled and finished by Ronaldo it is unreal.
We have now totally and utterly gone and this is probved by a further three goals late in the game! Rooney (what a talent) plays the perfect ball into the path of Ferdinand who volleys home.
Ronaldo completely baffles Cacapa and his left foot shot gets a deflection on route to the back of the net. Tevez smacks a shot off the underside of the bar and whether it is over the line or not is debatable but, by this stage, does it really matter?
To cap it Alan Smith gets himself sent off.
What a day to cap an amazing week. I would like to think that there is some sort of light at the end of the proverbial tunnel but, with players of this calibre, players with such a lack of fight, players who are earning such ridiculous amounts of money, it looks like a very long tunnel!
We now wait for the next episode in the soap opera.
