Tishoo Arsenal – We Fall Down!
27 September 2007
Arsenal 2 Newcastle 0
It would be easy to condemn Newcastle for failing to beat Arsenal "reserves" in the Carling Cup tie but I really do believe that we should be giving the utmost praise to Arsenal and Arsene Wenger and his staff.
I know from personal experience how difficult it is to bring young players through the ranks and gradually "blood" them in appropriate first team matches.
Arsenal have the proverbial conveyor belt going on and on and on. Fantastic!
Anyway, back to the game and it could all have been so different if Martins had slotted home one of his chances but Diarra was running the show--how satisfying it must be to have bought him cut-price from rivals Chelsea!!--and eventually Bendtner headed home and Denilson lashed one past Given, both goals coming in the last ten minutes.
Excuses for defeats are part and parcel of footballing life but I cannot buy into the "We were tired" theory.
Highly tuned athletes unable to play two games in three days - Come on!
