Toon Beat Pools

Well, here we go again! First proper match of the season for Newcastle and we win 3-1 at Hartlepool.

On paper these games look easy but, truth be known, it is the old "nothing to gain" syndrome so it is a nice start.

Even nicer is the fact that Michael Owen scored his first goal for many moons and the other two were scored by the much maligned Shola Ameobi. He, too, has been out for a long spell and this will boost his confidence no end.

This is a big season for Shola. He has played a lot of games now and potential only lasts so long. He really has to prove that he can do it at the highest level and that he can put pressure on Mark Viduka to get a regular starting place.
