Toon Earn their Spurs!

Newcastle United 3 Tottenham Hotspur 1

Another three goals at home and another win makes it a good start to the season in general, something that cannot be said for opponents 'Spurs who continue to flounder at the foot of the table.

As would be expected in this day and age this heaps more pressure on Martin Jol, although it has to be said that for a team who has spent so much money and has so much talent at hand, there is something lacking. And it cannot do the manager a lot of favours when someone as talented as Berbatov comes off the bench and appears to simply go through the motions.

But enough about them!

It wasn't a great first-half for The Toon, who continually sent ineffectual long balls down the middle, not exactly the recipe for success when you have Martins and Owen up front against man mountain Kaboul and nearly as big Dawson!! In saying that, it was from such a ball from Jose Enrique that brought about the opener on the stroke of half-time. Dawson got himself in all sorts of bother, allowing Martins to shoot under the keeper.

N'Zogbia had been fairly anonymous in the first half which is a shame because he is a very talented boy but he has to learn how to get into the game, how to get free from his marker to give him the space to use his undoubted ability. He was replaced by Milner who must have felt a bit unlucky to be on the bench in the first place and he immediately got into the game.

The vital second came soon after the break when Emre's nice delivery from a right wing corner was headed home by the poorly marked Cacapa. More question marks against Dawson. If you see the goal again, have a look at the part played by Faye, who makes a great strong run to make space for his mate.

Two up, 'Spurs struggling, no problem? But we never make it that easy, do we! Loose marking allowed Bent (what a poor performance he put in!) the chance to flick a header against the post and the ever-alert Keane knocked home the rebound.

But this is a Newcastle side with a bit of fight and, after being put under a bit of pressure, they got their act together and went on to score the clincher through Milner, who completely mis-kicked with his right, then cracked it home with his left with the Tottenham defence again conspicuous by their absence.

So another home win. Can we now get back to making St.James' the fortress that it once was . Why not?!
