Celebration Time??
Sunderland 0 Arsenal 1
15 May 2008
Celebration was the order of the day, simply because another season in The Premier League was guaranteed. It would be easy to question these motives but, as one of last season's promoted teams, I suppose that was first priority. Just ask Derby County!!
It is a well-known fact that, for a lot of teams, the second season can be the really difficult one, so a lot will depend on this summer's raids into the transfer market.
If ever we needed to be reminded of the difference in class between the top few and the rest, then here it was for all to see. Arsenal were fluid, classy and confident and could and should have won by more than the solitary goal scored by Walcott, who used his fantastic pace to latch on to Gilberto's through ball and slot past debutant keeper Fulop.
Sunderland had a few flurries but it was the visiting team who held the upper hand throughout.
So, a bit of relaxation, then the main aim is to improve on this season's performance.
Wouldn't it be nice to go through a season without the threat of relegation hanging over your head?!
