Liverpool 3 Sunderland 0
04 February 2008
On a poor run and disarray behind the scenes could it be a good time to travel to Anfield?
In the first half you could have been excused for thinking maybe, just maybe.
But when Carragher suddenly decided he could be a winger and skipped past Murphy to cross to that beanpole called Crouch, the writing was on the wall. It was little surprise then that the impressive Torres broke clear and made no mistake as Gordon faced him.
There are and forever will be debates about penalties although on this occasion Sunderland could rightfully feel hard done by, when they were refused one when Carragher handled and then, just to rub salt in the wound, one was given against them when Nosworthy was unlucky to be adjudged to have fouled Pennant as he sped through.
Gerrard netted this one in the last minute despite a brave attempt by Gordon.
To get anything against the top four is a big bonus but it is points against the lesser teams that keep you in the Premier League, starting with Wigan next week.
