Man. United 1 Sunderland 0
7 September 2007
I think I have found my preferred mode of viewing football. Outside old B.J.'s in Son Parc, Menorca, sun on the back, pint in hand, big screen in front. Luxury!
Well it was always going to be about Roy Keane's return to the scene of so many of his triumphs, namely Old Trafford. As you would expect he was given a rousing welcome by both sets of supporters. And how he would have liked to put one over on the old "Jock", Alex Ferguson. And it wasn't too far away.
However, Old Trafford is not theeasiest place to go to and pick up a point or three!
You can never question the effort put in by Sunderland but it was always the home side who looked the more likely but so long as a game sticks at 0-0 there is always the chance of a breakaway and an upset. However it was the dangerous half-time sub, Louis Saha (Why did Newcastle let him go all those years ago?) who headed in the vital goal from a left-wing corner. Ok the marking could have been better but a bit of credit to the delivery and the finish.
There are going to be a lot of difficult away days this season so it seems to me that a lot will depend on picking up points at home and making teams a bit wary of visiting Tyneside.
It has got to be said that Andy, (sorry, Andrew!) Cole is an interesting signing but with his pedigree he could be just the man to knock in a few vital goals which, in turn, could really up the confidence of the team as a whole.
We wait and watch keenly!
