Poor or what?
Bolton Wanderers 2 Sunderland 0
5 May 2008
Well, Bolton had to win to secure their place with the big boys next season, as Sunderland had "achieved" the previous week. So, no argument, Bolton will have a go.
As for Sunderland, they may now be safe but they owe it to themselves and their fans to put on a performance. No pressure, so go out and show us what you can really do. But, no, what a poor display. The ball was hardly passed in 90 minutes, just smacked from end to end.
I am sure that Roy Keane knows that now is the time to go and bring in some quality. If he didn't know this before the game, I am sure he certainly does now!
For the record, Diouf beautifully controlled a cross and side-footed a half volley into the top corner. A fine piece of skill completely out of context in this game. The second and clinching goal was far more suitable in a game of this nature. Darryl Murphy got his head on to a Taylor corner to divert it goalwards. However Reid was on the post so had to clear it. Yes, he did but....he was standing behind the line in the first place! Oh dear!
So Sunderland have stayed up but may need another bit of a reality check if Arsenal decide to really turn it on next week at The Stadium of Light!
