That'll Do Nicely....

Sunderland 1 Derby County 0
Not a classic by any means but it was never going to be, was it? Two teams down at the bottom scrapping for that elusive victory that could just kick-start a run to get them clear of that dreaded relegation area.
And it was Sunderland who got the vital winner way into time added on so it was relief all round and I am sure quite a few will enjoy their pint that little bit more!! The first half was basically a bit of a non-event summed up by saying that Howard could have scored at one end and Kenwyne Jones should have scored at the other. With new manager Paul Jewell at the helm, Derby were certainly going to fight and fight they did and they will feel a little bit hard done by losing the only goal so late in the game.
The goal came from Anthony Stokes, a late substitute for Carlos Edwards, and this could be a turning point for Stokes personally. He has not really set the place alight but he has a goalscoring pedigree and if he can start sticking the ball in the net on a more regular basis then it could well be onwards and upwards.
Visiting goalkeeper Bywater made two fine saves to keep Sunderland at bay but Stokes remained alert and hooked the ball high into the net much to the delight of the crowd who are standing by their team admirably through this tough period.
Although far from safe this win pushes Sunderland up to 14th in the league and a winning run at home would be gladly accepted all round!
