THE WOLVES KEPT AT BAY BY SUNDERLAND
Saturday 7th April 2007
Attendance: 40,748
Sunderland 2 Wolverhampton Wanderers 1
It was billed as the Keane v McCarthy rematch and it certainly was a heavyweight contest with both sides doing their utmost and giving their all. Ironically it was Daryl Murphy, a McCarthy signing, who gave Sunderland the lead with a fine shot across the keeper.
And the same player played a big part in the second goal from Wallace who timed his run to perfection to head home. The breathing space afforded by this second goal only lasted for two minutes when Keogh sneaked in to head home.
Both teams went hammer and tongs until the finish but it was the home side who ran out winners and another valuable three points were in the bag.
With other results going in our favour we are now finding it hard not to dream of the Premiership.
