Sunderland Win Their Spurs!
12 August 2007
Sunderland 1 Tottenham 0
It is here at last. First game of the new season in The Premier League and, into the bargain, it is the early kick-off and it is against a big spending club who many are tipping to challenge the big four.
To be frank it is not the best of games but the atmosphere is electric due to the crowd who are absolutely willing their team on.
Against a good attacking side it is imperative that your defenders are on their toes and they certainly are. Nosworthy and McShane are magnificent against Berbatov and Keane. It is worth bearing in mind that Bent and Defoe are on the bench!! A 0-0 draw is not a bad result. We'll have none of that!
You could not have written the script. New signing Michael Chopra comes on for Stokes--incredibly there are a few boos--the ball is played up the right where wallace shows great skill to get the ball in with his right. Chopra moves off Chimponda and the ball lands at his feet. Good first touch and then a calm side-foot leaving Robinson with no chance. Pandemonium!!
There will be plenty ups and downs throughout the season but what a way to start!
