Up and Sunder land for Southend

Sunderland 4 Southend 0

Whilst a comfortable win at home against the second bottom side in The Championship may appear to be the norm it has to be remembered that Southend have shown some great form recently and Sunderland deserve full credit for a fine victory.

Manager Roy Keane's influence is now definitely hitting home and his side produced one of their best displays of the season knocking home four goals in the process.

The outcome was never in doubt from as early as the 13th minute when Sunderland were already two goals up through a goal apiece from man, David Connolly and winger Tobias Hysen.

Stern John was trying desperately hard to get off the mark for his new club and came close when he headed against the post, but he did not have to wait long and soon tapped in to open his account. His confidence will have increased even further when only one minute later he rattled home his second and Sunderland's fourth to cap a fine all-round display and victory.

Can we speak of promotion yet?
