Upward and Onward - Plymouth Ho!
Saturday, February 10th, 2007
Attendance: 15,247
Sunderland continued their recent good form with a comfortable victory against Plymouth. Although they had the best of things throughout, it took until the 66th minute to get the vital first goal.
Shortly after coming on as sub, recent 2 million pound signing Anthony Stokes showed his natural finishing instinct to put Sunderland ahead and, within two minutes, the game was virtually put out of Plymouth's reach when David Connolly confidently rounded the keeper after latching on to a Stern John flick-on.
Whilst Roy Keane further enhanced his reputation as one of the country's up-and-coming young managers, his opposite number, Ian Holloway, was forced to admit that his side had been second best throughout the match.
