You Have To Earn Your Luck

Sunderland 0 Everton 1
Their home form suggested that Sunderland would give high-flying Everton a run for their money but it was not to be. With Everton having given one of their poorest performances of the season a few days earlier in Italy--against a very good side it has to be said--this was surely a chance to move up towards safety. But it was not to be. Playing a cagey 4-5-1 after losing seven at Goodison earlier in the season, there was no penetration at all in a lacklustre first half. The visitors were not a lot better but played with that bit more confidence.
Everton had a couple of half chances in the first half but it was ten minutes into the second half when they sneaked the all-important goal when Arteta crossed and Andy Johnson was brave enough to challenge for the ball which came off his arm and flew past Gordon who, for reasons best known to himself, had crouched down behind the body of players in front of him.
So the long hard season looks like it will grind on to the death and any more performances of this nature will be of no help whatsoever!
