Hotbed of Football?

The North-East of England has always been known as a hotbed of football and this has been confirmed throughout the years by the passion if not by the winning of leagues and cups!

So what a disastrous day it was for us all when Newcastle got played off the park by Liverpool, Sunderland lose seven goals at Everton and Middlesbrough are well beaten at home by Aston Villa.

We have to bear in mind that none of these sides who humiliated our teams are in the top five (although Liverpool probably will be soon) so, in theory, we are expecting to be at least on the same level. Yet we were all three thoroughly outplayed, out-thought and even outfought.

It is a sad, sad situation and I can only dread the thought of any of our teams facing Arsenal, Chelsea or Man U. when they are on form!!
