MISPRINT???
14 September 2007
So there I am watching England do not so badly against the Russians--even though the visitors had a perfectly good goal disallowed and missed two great chances at the start of the second half. This is the old Jock "chip on the shoulder" coming out!! Well I can't be too nice about England or I will lose any credibility I ever had when I return home! So I'll flick on the teletext and read the bad news in Paris. We beat the French at home so they are going to be upset and give us a right good hammering to teach us a lesson. 0-0 at half-time, so not bad but with the whole of the second half still to come--so we will settle for respectability.
Flick on again and there it is--an ever so obvious misprint, namely France 0 Scotland 1. No, it can't be true, but, if it is, they are going to be really upset and batter us even more!
So, showing no emotion whatsoever, I turned the teletext on every 30 seconds from then till the end! And, would you believe it, we've only beaten the French again, but this time, in their own back-yard.
And did you see the goal? Thirty yards out, could have landed in row Z but where did it go? Right in the top corner!
So it is still going to be difficult to qualify but you cannot ask for more.
Oh and England did ok and won 3-0 and more to the point for us Michael Owen scored two so that is 6 in 5 so here's hoping he continues the goal-scoring streak on Monday at Derby.
