Morals?

So the Joey Barton saga continues with his next court appearance pending. So what should Newcastle do? The general consensus is that he should be sacked and I would have to agree so long as the club can retain his registration and he cannot head off and make even more money.
However, from what I gather, they may ask him to stay if he takes a wage cut?! Now, come on, where are the morals if this is the case and what sort of message does it send out?
I only hope that my info is wrong!
