Newcastle Falcons Director of Rugby John Fletcher has been busy re-securing the services of two key performers over past seasons who both have been out with long term injuries. On Monday It was announced that England Saxons back row forward Phil Dowson has penned a two extension to his contract keeping him at Kingston Park until the end of the 2008/9 season.

On Tuesday it was also announced that Scrum Half Hall Charlton has also extended his stay with the Geordie side until the end of the same season. These two players both could be important members of the Falcons future plans with Dowson returning from a Bicep injury to compete for a place in the back row with Russell Winter and Brent Wilson and Charlton will be looking to reclaim his 9 shirt from the grasp of Lee Dickson now he has recovered from his injury ravished season.

On the rumour front it has been mentioned unofficially that the Falcons have expressed an interested in bringing All Black prop Carl Hayman to KP after the World Cup this year. A long-time member of renowned Otago and Highlanders front rows, Hayman has played alongside former All Black and current Falcon Prop Joe McDonnell. No official confirmation or denial has been made from any party however this would be the forward thinking world class signing that Falcons fans would love to see to compliment the blend of home grown stars such as Mat Tait and World Superstars like Matt Burke and Jonny Wilkinson
