Stars Keep Faith in Falcons

Falcons wing Tom May has signed a new three-year deal, as Newcastle continue to keep their stars at Kingston Park.

The 28-year-old has made the most appearances for the club out of the entire current first team squad, scoring 46 tries in his 184 competitive outings.

Director of rugby, John Fletcher, said: “Tom continues to be a firm part of our team structure here at Kingston Park, and we look forward to working with him for the next three years.

“He came up from London but has settled extremely well in the north-east. Now established as one of the senior professionals in the squad he has, over a consistent period of time, helped shape the way we play and the team ethic that we enjoy.

“We are fortunate to be blessed with a lot of quality players in that area of the team at the moment, and Tom is an important part of that.”

Speaking after signing his new contract, May said: “It’s great to have it sorted, and I’m looking forward to the next few years at the club.

“Having joined as a youngster all those years ago it’s a bit strange to be here now as one of the older members of the squad giving the youth some stick on a daily basis. But the quality of players we have and the ambition around the club makes this a place players want to be, and I’m no different.”

May’s deal comes on the back of fellow Falcons Toby Flood, Mathew Tait, Phil Dowson and Jamie Noon all agreeing contracts to stay at Kingston Park, and in the same week that the club announced the signing of All Black prop Carl Hayman.
