John Connolly!
5 June 2007
John Connolly - I signed for St. Johnstone and he was there. I moved to Everton and there he was. I came to Newcastle United and he's there again. I even signed for Gateshead after having to retire and he was even there!
My old mate John Connolly who I seemed to follow everywhere. He must have put a good word in on the way!
John is now Commercial Manager of Dundee Football Club, having recently been manager of Queen of the South where he brought them great success and also St. Johnstone where things did not work out so well.
He is a great character and tremendous company, once christened "Johnny-Two-Lagers" because of his ability to appear to be pissed after two drinks. However it has to be said that ten drinks later he was in exactly the same state and we were all struggling! A top-class left winger Con reminded of the time he got transferred to Birmingham City where Willie Bell was the gaffer. Although Con was playing well the results did not go too well and the manager was "on his bike" after only a few weeks.
They waited anxiously to see who would take over and it is only Sir Alf Ramsay who gets the job.
First team meeting and here are two of his quotes.
"One has decided not to play with wingers"
"I am not a great lover of Scotsmen".
Bye, bye Con!!
